How To Make Playdough

January 24, 2020

Making playdough at home is actually quite easy once you just dive in and try it! It’s also non-toxic – meaning those little toddlers COULD eat it and be juuuuuust fine. Check out the recipe below:

How To Make Playdough

You’ll need
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tsp  cream of tartar
2 cups water
4 tbsp vegetable oil
food coloring if desired

Mix the dry ingredients together. Gradually stir the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients. Cook over medium heat in a big pot, stirring constantly until the mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat. When cool enough to touch, knead until smooth. Store in a plastic baggy or airtight container.

We make this for our preschool class often. It also makes a great party favor gift for birthday parties. Or it is nice to have some on hand for when your kids want to play with some dough! It doesn’t dry out as quickly as normal play doh, and the color options are endless when you use your own non-toxic food coloring. Feel free to get creative, mama! Your kids will love making this with you!

Easy and Healthy Lunch Salad

March 5, 2019

Easy Healthy Salad For Lunch

My dear friend Ashley made this salad for us one day when we were rehearsing at the house, and I could not believe how quick it was to make and how DELICIOUS it was! I now (literally) eat this salad almost every day. YUM! And honestly, when she first added beets to this, I thought to myself – um no. I’ll just eat around those! But they are the perfect addition to this salad! Try it! I love them now!

Easy, Quick Salad For Lunch
Pre-washed mixed greens
Rotisserie chicken
Feta cheese (Trader Joe’s brand with the yellow sticker is THE best)
Red bell pepper
Pre-cooked beets (find in veggie section in any grocery store)
salt and pepper
Extra virgin olive oil
red wine vinegar
balsamic vinegar (I love a pomegranate flavored one)

Making this salad is a breeze; just toss some pre-washed greens in a bowl and add your chopped pepper, pulled chicken, crumbled cheese, diced avocado, and chopped beets. Then season with salt and pepper, and drizzle your oils and vinegars on top.

Feel free to add any other veggies or toppings you have laying in your fridge. I’ll add leftover quinoa if I have it or mushrooms…apples add a sweet touch to it as well!

Enjoy, mama!

Valentine’s Day Craft-Picture Frame

February 8, 2019

Is there anything cuter than a homemade gift from our kids on a holiday? Even better when we help them make it and send it to a loved one, grandparent, or friend. These cute little picture frames are simple to make and are sure to be a hit when given as a gift. Add these delish valentine’s treats to the mix – DONE! Or if chocolate is your jam…make these brownies!

Valentine's Day Craft

Things you will need:

  • Jumbo Wood Craft Sticks
  • Multi Colored Buttons
  • Felt Hearts
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue sticks.
  • Picture of your kiddos

Valentine's Day Kid Craft DIY gift

Putting these together is a pretty basic craft-which is great for this mama, because crafting ain’t always my thing 🙂 Glue four craft sticks together at the corners to make a square/rectangle. Once glue has dried you can start attaching buttons and hearts as you’d like. We kind of created a pattern together, but if you let your kiddo do all the placement I’m sure it will be equally as cute.  Once everything has dried attach a photo on the back side to be seen through the opening, and you are done.  Super cute, and a fun craft to do together on a snowy day.

Valentine’s Rice Krispie Treats

February 6, 2019

It’s the month of LOVE y’all. Do you all celebrate Valentine’s Day in a big way?  When I was younger I didn’t really enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day.  I don’t know if it was my lack of a significant other, or just the over the top hearts, googley eyes and Hallmark cards. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve been a bit more in to celebrating the day of love, at least with my kids.  They love allllll the holidays, and having them get excited about the day makes this mama heart happy.

Make these cute DIY Valentine’s Day gifts to go with these treats and your February 14th will be a hit! (Rather have chocolate this time? Make these brownies instead! Or just make them both 🙂 )

Valentine's Day Dessert Rice Krispie Treat Recipe

These treats are fairly easy and super fun to make with your kids. Outside of the sticky mess you have to clean up this recipe is a breeze.  Enjoy!

Valentine's Day Treats

  • Rice Krispies
  • Large bag of Marshmallows-10oz bag
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • One Bag of White Chocolate Chips-I used Ghiradelli
  • Valentine’s Day Sprinkles 🙂
  • Heart Shaped Cookie Cutters
  • Red Food Coloring-optional

Make Rice Krispie Treats according to directions on the box. If you want to make the treats pink or red this is when you would add food coloring as you are mixing together.  Once the bars are cooled you can cut out pieces in the shape of hearts. After your hearts are cut, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave so they are ready for dipping your hearts in. Dip one half of your hearts into the chocolate and place on a wax paper lined tray.  Then sprinkle the Valentine’s Day sprinkles on top of the melted chocolate. This was my son’s favorite part! Repeat with all the hearts and then leave to cool.  And DONE.  Easy, fun for the kids and oh so festive.  Happy Valentine’s Day, Mamas-hope you are spreading all the love and getting some back in return. xo Valentine's Rice Krispie Treats

Football Brownies Recipe for Super Bowl Party

January 23, 2019

Football Brownies Recipe Super Bowl Party

Friends. This is the easiest dessert to bring to a football party, hands down! Now sure, you could make your brownies from scratch and really put some extra effort into it……but why? 🙂 Go ahead and pick up a box of brownie mix- I used Pillsbury Milk Chocolate this time around. You will also need a small tube of white decorating icing with a fine tip, gel or regular frosting will work great.

Football Brownies JJ

Make the brownies according to the box, and ask a cute kid to help out.  If they have a cake like option, I personally think that makes it a little easier to create your “footballs”, but you can most certainly make them the regular way. Once brownies have cooled cut them into little football shapes (or use a cookie cutter-even easier!). Then take the white frosting and decorate them to look like the laces of the football. AND DONE. See I told you. Easiest recipe ever, and a festive addition to any football party! Disclaimer – I let my son help me with these, if you do them yourself I’m guessing you could make your lines just a weeee bit straighter – lol. We had fun together and that’s all that matters!

Pigs In A Blanket Recipe for Super Bowl Party

Pigs In A Blanket Recipe for Super Bowl Party ideas

Who doesn’t love an old fashioned Pigs In A Blanket recipe!? I’m telling you, make these and they will be all gone. Every party needs a good pig in a blanket, especially a Super Bowl Party!

My 4 year old daughter loved making these with me! And she did a great job, too – these are a perfect food to get your kiddos involved in.

Pigs In A Blanket Recipe

1 can of pillsbury crescent rolls
1 package of Lil’ Smokies

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Unroll the crescent rolls and cut into smaller pieces. I match the number of “rolls” to the number of lil’ smokies I have. – one can of crescent rolls to one package of lil’ smokies. Roll up a lil’ smokie in the smaller pieces of dough. Place the piggies on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Serve with ketchup, mustard, and whatever else your heart desires!

If you’re making these for a Super Bowl Party or a football party, plate the pigs in a blanket into a football shape and add “laces” with mustard on top!

Check out these delicious Football Brownies you can take to your Super Bowl Party with these piggies 🙂 And Click HERE for our full Super Bowl Party post of ideas and recipes!
